In the US, chicken has overtaken beef as the most popular meat to eat. But in order to farm the estimated 8 billion chickens eaten in this country alone every year, chicken industry working conditions have gotten bad.
While it has long been known that the chickens themselves are force to survive in terrible, inhumane conditions, did you know that the chicken industry workers are treated almost as bad?
Shocking reports have been leaked that indicate the workers in the chicken industry are forced to wear diapers because they don’t have bathroom breaks. Either that, or they must urinate and defecate on themselves in order to keep their jobs.
One Arkansas poultry plant in particular has risen to the top of the controversy. In order to get more output from the workers, who are considered more of a commodity than a human, management denied them bathroom breaks so they “had to wear Pampers” to keep performing up to standards.
Oxfam America is responsible for releasing this damnable report on the entire poultry industry which includes companies such as Tyson, Purdue, and other large distributors of America’s favorite meat.
“I had to wear Pampers,” a worker identified as Dolores said in the report from Oxfam America. “I and many, many others had to wear Pampers.”
